David Crosby, Personal Injury Partner at C & W advises that all drivers, to protect themselves from such staged accidents, should keep a disposable camera and pen and paper in their cars so they can clearly record at the scene what vehicle damage (if any) was done and the number of people in the other car.
It is also advisable to try and get names and addresses from any witnesses to the accident at the scene as their evidence may well be the difference in being able to defeat such staged claims at Court and/or assist the Police if a decision is taken to prosecute.
At the moment Crosby & Woods have not seen or heard of this new ‘flash for cash scam’ taking place in Sussex but where there is a chance to generate such substantial financial profits from it, it can sadly only be a matter of time before it does start.
